Rebel 500
The beginner cruiser that everyone starts on and nobody regrets.
Jun's rating
out of ten
In one line
The lowest, easiest, most forgiving first motorcycle on sale. Bobber looks, Honda reliability, and a 690 mm seat.
What is new for 2026
The 2025 update gave the Rebel 500 a tapered handlebar, revised seat foam, an anti-glare LCD dash, and colour-matched fenders, with ABS standard on all trims. 2026 adds colours.

“Confidence at a stop is the first skill. The Rebel gives it away for free.
Mechanical Breakdown
The Rebel 500 uses the CB500 twin retuned for low-end torque in a steel diamond frame with a 690 mm seat, the lowest of any beginner bike. The 41 mm fork and twin shocks are basic, the single 296 mm front disc is adequate, and ABS is standard. The 2024 update added a slipper clutch and the SE trim brought a headlight cowl and forks boots.
Honda's E-Clutch became available on the Rebel 500 for 2025 in some markets.
Ride Character
The Rebel is confidence on two wheels. You can flat-foot it with room to spare, the twin pulls cleanly from 3,000 rpm, and the wide bars make slow-speed manoeuvres trivial. It cruises at 110 km/h without strain and will do 140 if asked. Suspension is soft and short, and big bumps reach you.
It is not exciting, and that is precisely why it is the right first cruiser.
Maintenance Outlook
Same engine as the CB500: 12,000 km oil, 24,000 km valve checks, and access is excellent. The bobber style leaves everything exposed. This is the cruiser I would use to teach maintenance, because it is the simplest big-brand cruiser you can buy.
Who It's For
The new rider who wants a cruiser, the shorter rider who has struggled with seat heights, and anyone who wants a stylish, simple commuter that will never fail.
Jun's Verdict
The Rebel 500 is the beginner cruiser, full stop. It is not fast and the suspension is basic, but it is the most approachable motorcycle on this entire list and the resale is excellent. Buy it, learn on it, and move up to a Scout or a Low Rider S when you are ready.
