BMW Motorrad

The boxer, the shaft, and the long road.

The philosophy, as I read it

BMW builds motorcycles for people who ride a long way and want the machine to disappear. The boxer twin, shaft drive, Telelever suspension, and now radar cruise are all solutions to the same problem: how to make eight hundred kilometres feel like two hundred. The GS is the answer, and the fact that BMW also builds the S 1000 RR shows the engineering does not stop at comfort.

History in a paragraph

BMW's first motorcycle, the R 32 of 1923, established the flat-twin and shaft-drive layout the company still uses. The R 80 G/S of 1980 invented the adventure bike, the K series brought inline fours, and the S 1000 RR of 2009 shocked the superbike class. BMW Motorrad has sold over 200,000 motorcycles a year since 2022.
