MT-03
The R3's engine in a naked frame, and the best of the small MTs.
Jun's rating
out of ten
In one line
A sub-five-thousand-dollar bike that steers like something twice the price. Rev it and forgive the lack of torque.
What is new for 2026
Mostly unchanged for 2026 beyond colours. The most recent update brought a reshaped seat, slimmer side covers, restyled LED lighting, and the 37 mm KYB inverted fork.

The review

“Momentum is a skill, and small bikes are where you learn it.
Mechanical Breakdown
The 321cc twin is a short-stroke, high-revving design that makes its 42 hp near 10,750 rpm. That means you have to work it, but it also means it is nearly impossible to stall or loop. The 2025 update brought a 37 mm inverted KYB fork and a TFT dash, which finally matched the chassis to the engine.
The steel diamond frame and the 780 mm seat make it the lowest and lightest bike in this group.
Ride Character
It steers with fingertips. The MT-03 is the bike I would put a nervous rider on for a parking-lot session because it feels like a heavy bicycle at walking pace. On the open road you learn to keep it above 7,000 rpm, which is a good habit for anyone planning to move up to an R7 later.
Highway riding is where the 321cc shows its limits; it will do it, but it is buzzing at 9,000 rpm to hold 120 km/h.
Maintenance Outlook
Valve checks come at 42,000 km on paper, which is remarkable, and the engine has a reputation for shrugging off neglect. Oil changes are simple, the air filter is behind two bolts, and the tank is lifted with one.
The only recurring task is chain tension, because the small sprockets and high revs load it harder than a bigger twin.
Who It's For
Shorter or lighter riders, city commuters, and anyone who wants the cheapest honest motorcycle from a major manufacturer. Also a good choice for a track-day novice who wants to learn corner speed before power.
Jun's Verdict
The MT-03 wins on price, weight, and handling, and loses on torque. If your riding is mostly urban and you value a bike that will always feel light, it is the sharpest small bike here. If your commute has long fast roads, buy the Ninja 500 instead.
