CRF1100L Africa Twin
The adventure bike that rides like a big dirt bike and never breaks.
Jun's rating
out of ten
In one line
Not the fastest or the fanciest, but the one I would trust on a two-month trip with no support.
What is new for 2026
Mechanically unchanged for 2026 with new colours and heritage graphics. The major revision was 2024, which raised torque and moved the Adventure Sports to a 19-inch front wheel.

The review
Five parts, no spec-sheet copying.
“Reliability is a form of freedom. The Africa Twin gives you more of it than any bike in its class.
Mechanical Breakdown
The 1084cc twin uses a Unicam single-overhead-cam layout borrowed from Honda's motocross bikes, which keeps the head compact and the centre of gravity low. The 2024 update raised torque to 112 Nm with a higher compression ratio and revised intake, and it gained a 19-inch front wheel on the road-oriented Adventure Sports trim, while the base bike kept the 21-inch.
Showa suspension with 230 mm of travel, a six-axis IMU, cornering ABS, and the optional DCT dual-clutch transmission define the spec. The DCT is now in its fourth generation and is genuinely good off-road.
Ride Character
The Africa Twin feels like a big enduro: narrow at the waist, easy to stand on, with a torque delivery that pulls cleanly from 2,500 rpm. It is slower than the GS and the 890 on the road and calmer than both. The DCT is a matter of taste; I did not expect to like it, and I did, especially in technical terrain where a clutch hand is one more thing to manage.
Comfort is excellent and the screen is finally adjustable.
Maintenance Outlook
Valve checks are at 24,000 km and the Unicam layout is simple to service. Oil changes are trivial. The DCT needs its own filter change but is otherwise sealed and has proven very reliable. Honda's global dealer network is the widest of any manufacturer, which matters more on a trip than any spec.
Who It's For
The long-distance adventure rider who wants a bike that will not fail and can be serviced anywhere, or the rider who wants a DCT for off-road technical work. Also the best two-up adventure bike under the GS.
Jun's Verdict
The Africa Twin is the adventure bike I would recommend to most people, because it does everything well, nothing badly, and it will still be running when the others are waiting on parts. The GS is more capable and the KTM is better in the dirt, but this is the one you bet a trip on.
