The review
Five parts, no spec-sheet copying.
“The mark of a great sport bike is not the lap time. It is whether you still want to ride it home afterwards.
Mechanical Breakdown
Aprilia's 659cc twin is essentially the front half of the RSV4's V4, with a 270-degree crank, and for 2026 it makes 105 hp on larger 52 mm throttle bodies and an 11,800 rpm limit, a class-leading figure. The aluminium twin-spar frame uses the engine as a stressed member, and the 41 mm KYB fork and shock are adjustable for preload and rebound. Brembo four-piston radial calipers grip 320 mm discs.
The electronics are the class benchmark: a six-axis IMU with cornering ABS, five-level traction control, wheelie control, engine braking control, cruise control, and a bidirectional quickshifter, all standard.
Ride Character
The RS 660 is quick, refined, and unusually comfortable for a bike with a full fairing. The clip-ons are above the top yoke, the fairing actually deflects wind, and the twin has enough mid-range that you are not hunting for revs like on the ZX-6R. On a fast road it is the most complete bike here; on a track it gives up a little ultimate sharpness to the R7's suspension and the ZX-6R's power.
Cruise control on a sport bike sounds silly until you use it.
Maintenance Outlook
Aprilia's schedule calls for oil every 10,000 km and valves at 20,000 km, which is shorter than the Japanese bikes. Early models had some electrical and connecting-rod recalls, all addressed by 2023. Dealer coverage has improved with Piaggio's investment, but check locally.
The fairing is well designed for access, and the twin is easy to work around.
Who It's For
The rider who wants a sport bike for real roads and real distances, and values electronics and comfort over the last tenth of a second. Also the best-looking bike in the class, which matters more than anyone admits.
Jun's Verdict
The RS 660 is the sport bike I would choose to own, because it is the one I would ride most. It is more expensive than the R7 and slower than the ZX-6R, and it beats both at being a motorcycle you can live with. Check the dealer network and buy one.
